The art of science

2017

This project explores the intersection of linguistic research and artistic interpretation, drawing from doctoral studies on lexical processing in Dutch-English-French trilinguals. It focuses on interlingual words—terms that exist across multiple languages but shift in meaning, creating not a bridge, but a space for misunderstanding. These linguistic ambiguities highlight the illusion of seamless connection between languages.
The research process itself—data collection, analysis, and interpretation—is transformed into visual compositions. Each piece in the series becomes a metaphor for the intricate, often non-linear journey from raw data to structured conclusions.
By merging empirical study with artistic exploration, *The Art of Science* challenges viewers to recognize the inherent creativity in scientific inquiry and the hidden aesthetics within the pursuit of knowledge. It invites us to see research not as a rigid process, but as an evolving, interpretative act—one that mirrors the complexities of human understanding itself.
