The 90s soup

2022

In this project, I delve into the collective experiences of multiple people living in the Soviet Union in the 90s. The new times brought confusion and instability. Factories closed, unemployment rose, and the economy unraveled.
Families with more children faced a constant struggle to make ends meet, the quest for food became a daily challenge. Money had no value, people got coupons to get the essentials like flour, sugar, and bread. There was no war, but it felt like one with daily limits and survival.
The new search for identity started to split the community in two: those who dreamed about the new future and those who remembered about the better past.
The performance is in the form of a two-channel video installation where a new identity is created, a new Venus (sculpture).
