ART IS THE MIRROR

ART is something very exciting but at the same time undefined abstract concept. What is ART actually? Does the person have to learn something from looking at it? Is something becoming ART because it is labeled in a museum or was it ART long time before?

William Shakespeare in one of his famous works “Tragedy of Hamlet” said that “ART is the mirror hold up to nature” (Hamlet Act 3, scene 2, 17-24). And we believe that person looking at the art (theatre, painting etc.) relates it consciously or unconsciously with his/her own life.

Last years I went discovering answers for these questions. And it was very surprising that it is much more than that. A lot of works protected with a glass actually give the reflection of the person looking at it. Such view creates different layers of the work adapting it to the environment. It looks like we are not seeing only the painting but also our reflection in it. It makes me always think about myself and the relation of the painting with my life.

I intentionally choose ‘selfie style’ of photography to meet two goals. Firstly, I want to show the idea of art as the mirror and secondly, I want people to think about what they see and understand that not only sharing something makes it worth something but your own perception creates your own story.
